Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital, located in Mangolpuri, New Delhi, was established in April 1986 as part of a government initiative to provide healthcare services to underprivileged communities. Initially commissioned as a 100-bed facility, the hospital's capacity was increased to 300 beds in 2006, and it now operates a dedicated 150-bed complex for maternity and pediatric care. Serving a population of approximately 35–40 lakh residents from areas such as Mangolpuri, Sultanpuri, Nangloi, and neighboring states like Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan, the hospital offers comprehensive medical services free of cost.

The hospital provides a wide range of services, including outpatient and inpatient care across various specialties such as Medicine, Surgery, Orthopedics, Pediatrics, Obstetrics & Gynecology, ENT, Ophthalmology, Dental, Chest Clinic, and Homeopathy. Emergency services are available 24/7, along with round-the-clock laboratory, radiology, blood bank, and ambulance services. Specialized clinics include those for tobacco cessation, HIV counseling, geriatric care, and family welfare. Additionally, the hospital operates under the Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakram, offering free treatment, investigations, and transportation for pregnant women and newborns.

In response to growing demand, the hospital is expanding its infrastructure with the construction of a 362-bed trauma block, which will increase its total capacity to 662 beds. This new facility will include 42 ICU beds, parking, and mortuary services, aiming to enhance the hospital's ability to provide timely and quality healthcare. With an average outpatient load of 2,600–2,800 patients daily and a bed occupancy rate of 139%, the expansion is crucial to meet the healthcare needs of the local population .
