About Ayurvedic & Unani Tibbia College & Hospital
The Ayurvedic and Unani Tibbia College and Hospital in India is a historic and unique institution where both Ayurvedic and Unani systems operate under the same roof. It was initially started in 1883 by Hazeek-ul-Mulk Hakim Abdul Majeed Khan Sahib as 'Madrasa-e-Tibia', with the aim of promoting traditional medicine along with the study of modern medicine and science. The institution was formally inaugurated on 23 July 1889 by Shri R. Clarke, the then Deputy Commissioner of Delhi, marking the beginning of a significant chapter in India’s traditional medical education.
Later, the Madrasa-e-Tibia was re-established in a new building at Karol Bagh by Masih-ul-Mulk Hakim Ajmal Khan Sahib, a renowned figure in the field of Unani medicine and a freedom fighter. The foundation stone of the new building was laid by His Excellency Lord Hardinge, the then Viceroy of India, on 29 March 1916. This step was a significant milestone in strengthening the institution’s presence and expanding its capabilities to promote and preserve traditional systems of medicine in India.
The institute was inaugurated by Mahatma Gandhi on 13 February 1921, further highlighting its importance in India’s heritage and medical history. Today, the Ayurvedic and Unani Tibbia College and Hospital continues to serve the community by providing quality education and medical services, promoting traditional healing practices while incorporating modern medical knowledge.
