The Measles & Rubella (MR) Vaccine (Live) I.P. is a combination vaccine used to protect against two highly contagious viral diseases—measles and rubella. Measles can lead to severe complications such as pneumonia, brain swelling, and even death, while rubella is especially dangerous during pregnancy, potentially causing birth defects. The vaccine contains live, weakened viruses that help the body build long-lasting immunity. It is typically administered to infants at 9 months and again at 15–18 months, with catch-up doses for older children and adolescents if needed. It is not recommended during pregnancy and is given via a 0.5 ml subcutaneous injection.
