Vaccine Overview
Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine (PCV)
The Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine (PCV) is administered to infants to protect against pneumococcal diseases, including pneumonia, meningitis, and blood infections caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae. It is typically given in a series of doses starting at 6 weeks of age and continues through the first year of life. PCV is highly effective in reducing the risk of severe infections, particularly in young children and those with underlying health conditions. The vaccine strengthens immunity against the most common strains of pneumococcus, contributing to global efforts to reduce childhood morbidity and mortality from pneumococcal diseases.
