Vaccine Overview
Bacillus Calmette Guerin (BCG)
The Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) vaccine is an important immunization given to protect newborns from tuberculosis (TB). Ideally, it should be administered at birth or as early as possible, up to one year of age. The recommended dosage for the BCG vaccine is 0.1 ml, which is injected just under the skin (intra-dermal) on the left upper arm. For babies under one month of age, the dosage is reduced to 0.05 ml. The BCG vaccine helps the body build immunity against tuberculosis, which is particularly important in regions where TB is more common. Getting this vaccine early in life significantly reduces the risk of severe forms of tuberculosis in children, ensuring their long-term health and well-being.
