Scheme Description

The Awaz Health Insurance Scheme is a unique healthcare initiative introduced by the Kerala government specifically for migrant workers. Launched in November 2017, this scheme aims to provide health insurance coverage and accidental death benefits to migrant laborers working in the state. This initiative is the first of its kind in India, offering a safety net for migrant workers who often face health risks without adequate coverage.

Under this scheme, migrant workers are entitled to free medical treatment at all government hospitals in Kerala and certain empanelled private hospitals. The coverage includes up to ₹15,000 for medical treatment of illnesses or injuries, and accidental death coverage up to ₹2 lakh. In the unfortunate event of death, the beneficiary can claim the insurance amount by submitting valid proof of death.

The scheme targets migrant workers between the ages of 18 and 60 and requires them to provide biometric data and identity documents such as Aadhaar or Voter ID during the enrollment process.
