Scheme Description
The Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel Nishulk Aushadhi Vitran Yojana is a comprehensive healthcare initiative launched by the Government of Madhya Pradesh to provide free, high-quality essential medicines to all residents of the state. Introduced in 2012, the scheme aims to reduce out-of-pocket healthcare expenses and improve access to necessary medications, particularly for economically disadvantaged communities.
Under this scheme, approximately 10,000 government hospitals and 48,000 village health centers across Madhya Pradesh distribute over 250 essential medicines, including treatments for chronic diseases like diabetes, hypertension, cancer, and thalassemia. These medicines are procured through a transparent national tendering process and are of WHO-GMP certified quality, ensuring they meet international standards.
The scheme has significantly impacted public health by providing daily access to essential medicines to over 4 lakh citizens, with monthly beneficiaries exceeding 1.25 crore. The state government has also expanded the program to include free cancer treatment and chemotherapy drugs, benefiting thousands of patients.
