Scheme Description

The Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme (CMCHIS) is a health insurance initiative launched by the Tamil Nadu Government to provide affordable healthcare to the state's citizens. Launched in 2018, the scheme is designed to offer cashless medical treatment for a wide range of ailments, including hospitalization, surgeries, and treatments for various diseases. The program primarily targets economically weaker sections, providing them with access to high-quality healthcare without the burden of heavy medical expenses.

Under this scheme, families are covered for medical expenses up to ₹5 lakh per year. It includes both private and government hospitals across the state. The CMCHIS provides coverage for various medical treatments, including cardiac care, cancer treatment, dialysis, and maternal health services, among others. It also covers pre-existing diseases and ensures financial protection in case of critical illnesses.

The scheme is free of cost for the beneficiaries, with the government covering the insurance premiums. Identification cards are issued to beneficiaries, making it easier for them to access medical services at empanelled hospitals. The scheme also promotes preventive healthcare and offers health check-ups to detect diseases at an early stage.

The CMCHIS is part of the Tamil Nadu government's commitment to improving public health and making healthcare more accessible to all residents, especially the economically disadvantaged.
