Scheme Description

PM Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM) is an initiative launched by the Indian government to strengthen healthcare infrastructure across the country, with a particular focus on improving the capacity of healthcare systems in rural and remote areas. Launched in October 2021, it is part of the larger Ayushman Bharat Scheme and aims to provide comprehensive support to the health sector.

PM-ABHIM has a budget allocation of ₹64,180 crore for a 6-year period (2021-2026) and seeks to enhance healthcare infrastructure at various levels, including at the district, sub-district, and primary health centers. The mission focuses on expanding critical care services, increasing the availability of medical equipment, and upgrading hospitals and healthcare facilities across India.

Key components of PM-ABHIM include the establishment of new district hospitals, upgrading sub-district hospitals, creating critical care facilities, and ensuring access to diagnostics and telemedicine. This mission aims to make healthcare more accessible and reduce the burden on tertiary hospitals by strengthening lower-level healthcare facilities.
