Scheme Description

The Universal Health Insurance Scheme (UHIS) is a health insurance initiative launched by the Government of India, aimed at providing accessible and affordable healthcare services to individuals and families across the country. It was introduced to cover vulnerable sections of society and ensure that financial constraints do not prevent them from receiving necessary medical care.

The scheme primarily targets the poor and marginalized sections of the population, offering them an insurance cover that includes hospitalization expenses, surgery costs, and treatment for various illnesses and injuries. The Universal Health Insurance Scheme aims to reduce the financial burden of medical treatment and prevent individuals from falling into poverty due to high healthcare costs.
